Republicans are on the run (literally)- That’s Minnesota CD7 GOP Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach bailing outa a public meeting on the Appleton Prison $420 million taxpayer swindle after she spoke for barely 3 minutes, never mentioned how much the GOP paid for this abandoned prison, and never took questions, never mind answered them. Republicans have been hiding from voters for 2 years now, after losing the midterms they’ll be running, hiding, and in some cases racing outa reach of justice.
A lot of republicans will find hiding easier because they won’t have occasional day jobs in congress, legislatures, and other halls of government because the voters relieved them of the duties they been abusing and/or neglecting. Multiple forecasters are now predicting democratic control of the U.S.House by a couple standard deviations, and over 75% chance of democrats winning the Senate. Heck, time to look at the other side of that margin of error and a 240+ vote democratic House! With polling and professional predictions like this, if we don’t win the house they stole it!
But first, the GOP tried to buy our government- Ad spending alone in the election has topped 11 billion and the tab is still running, and republicans spent the most. Was only a couple election cycles back when spending passed a billion, and only 30 years ago a republican was rightfully criticized for spending $5 million on an Iowa caucus. The republican and republican supporting ad spend firmly places the GOP in the 5 biggest advertising buyers in the U.S,, and they may be the largest. Sadly, we have entered an era when elections are won by big spenders rather than hard working volunteer camapigners.
Multiple parties, new coalitions, and indie candidates- Here in Minnesota several candidates on both party’s side of the ballot have splintered off, boycotting their own party’s events and making new coalitions with other party factions and independents like Bernie. Just west of us in several prairie states independent candidates are waging formidable campaigns against republicans. With the new dominance of money in politics, what to stop Elon, unions, industry groups, and even foreign governments from putting competitive candidates on the ballot? Not much, and the lawyers can deal with that.
And expect the republicans to require eviction from the offices the voters threw them out of- The margin in the U.S. House will probably be too big to deny, but with a couple vote margin in the senate the GOP will use every legal and some illegal delay tactic to avoid seating elected democratic senators.
And finally, our leading 2028 presidential candidate- Pete Buttigieg has been traveling the country campaigning for democrats, and his midwestern working class cred and talent for actually governing put hime ahead of the pack. Here he is endorsing democrat Jake Johnson for Minnesota’s 1st congressional; district:
